Here are 5 Steps To Creating A Facebook Business Page For Your Lawn Care Company
Consider who is going to run your page and the content/voice you’re going to use
It’s fantastic that you’ve decided to start a Facebook business page for your lawn care business, but you have to ask yourself; do you have time to run it? While an active Facebook business page doesn’t need up to the minute care, you still need to spend a couple of minutes a day with it to make sure it’s up to date. If something changes or a significant event occurs, your customer will be left in the dark if you haven’t designated someone to make that change.
You may want to consider developing a “voice” for your business if you plan to have a few people run the page. If you’ve been around for a while, this may have already developed naturally. Just look at how you typically communicate with your customers, and you can determine from that point how you should “sound” on social media. If you’re brand new to the lawn care business, think of who your customer is and what sort of relationship you’d like to have with them. Should your “voice” be witty and light, or should it be consistently professional?
Having these conversations early can keep you from having to make quick decisions down the line.
Create the page and enter the basics
Now that you’ve determined how you want to manage your page, you need to get it set up. The basic steps are as follows:
On the right, at the top of the page, next to the circular “question” icon, you’ll see an arrow. Click it to reveal a drop-down menu. In that menu, select “Create Page.”
The designation for your page is easy; you’re a “Local Business or Place.”
Next, make sure to select “Local Service” from the next drop-down and then fill out your location information.
Upload your profile and cover images. Remember, these don’t have to be amazing, professionally produced images. You can take a picture of your crew hard at work. You could take pictures of a lawn you’ve serviced or a customer (granted you have their permission to post it) for your cover photo. Just make sure the image is landscape in orientation.
For your profile image, I recommend using your logo, if you have one, or a nice picture of the owner. This image will allow your customer to recognize this is your lawn care business’ page quickly. Never use an image of equipment or a lawn that you’ve serviced. Those options are too generic, and it may not be easily recognizable on a mobile device.
Facebook is pretty good at leading you through the process of setting things up. Just make sure you fill every little thing out and that every button has a purpose. The things to make sure you don’t miss are:
- Short Description – Provide a brief description of your business. This is only 157 characters so make them count.
- Business Hours – Include your store hours, so people know when you’re open for business.
- Custom URL – This will appear at the end of Facebook’s URL (facebook.com/lawncareco). Pick an easy username to help people find your page. You may have to wait until you have 25 likes.
- A Link To Your Website – Add your website URL so people can visit your site directly from Facebook.
Get all the likes
The first suggestion Facebook will make when you set up your page is for you to invite your friends to like the page. Don’t worry about being self-serving at this moment. You’ve worked hard to get your business where it is, and a click is not too much to ask from people you’re even slightly acquainted with.
Don’t stop there. Make sure that you add a link on your Facebook page to your website and make it highly visible. Also, add your Facebook link to your email signature, voicemail message, and any printed material you hand out. Make it impossible for a customer to miss that your lawn care business is on Facebook.
Figure out a posting schedule and feel free to deviate if you see something isn’t working
Now that you have a page, you have to make sure you post on it. The go-to here would be showing off the work you’ve done. Show off the completed jobs, the folks from your crew working hard, or that fancy new mower you just bought.
You may even want to take a picture with your customers and, with their permission, post it to your page with a short blurb explaining how you’re happy to have them. Creating a sense of community and caring for your customer base can go a long way when it comes to referral.
Keep your page active
Don’t go through the work of setting up your page only to post for a few weeks and then leave it to rot. Make sure your customers hear from you periodically. That way they know, you’re active and available.
One of the things that get lost when a business sets up a Facebook page is the interaction that social media is supposed to promote. Make sure you’re talking to your customers. Ask them open-ended questions when you post and follow up quickly when they reach out. Social media is supposed to be social. Don’t forget this.
It doesn’t take a ton of know-how to run a successful Lawn Care Business Facebook page. As long as you are consistent and present, you’ll see people begin to interact with you on a level you’ve never seen. This interaction, in turn, will lead to better word of mouth and more business.
